Independence Trail Export Pipeline Project
Gulf of Mexico
The 24" Independence Trail Export Pipeline is a 134-mile pipeline initiating with a 20" steel catenary riser (SCR) at the Independence Hub floating facility located in the Mississippi Canyon Block 920 area of the Gulf of Mexico in approximately 7,950 feet of water and terminating at a new fixed platform in West Delta Block 68 in approximately 115 feet of water.

The project also included the installation of a 20" FlexJoint and vortex induced vibration (VIV) suppression strakes; two (2) 12" x 16" double tee in-line assemblies in 6,500 and 4,500 feet of water; thirty-six (36) foreign pipeline crossings; 12½ miles of pipe requiring three (3) feet of burial; pipeline pre-commissioning, and pipeline commissioning through "First Gas".

CTI project management and construction personnel were integrated into the Independence Trail Project Team to provide project management support and construction expertise during both the planning and execution phases of the project, performing the following key functions:
  • Management of the procurement of key project materials
  • Management of pre-mobilization project engineering and planning activities
  • Offshore construction management and support
  • Onshore and offshore inspection services
  • Automatic ultrasonic testing (AUT) and other non-destructive examination (NDE) technical support
CTI also provided the following additional services during the project:
  • Technical support for the review of AUT and NDE procedures and weld defect acceptance criteria
  • Engineering and technical support for the design and installation of the 20" SCR
  • On-site inspection for all onshore fabrication and offshore construction activities, including the installation of the 20" SCR in 7,950 feet of water
  • Engineering and technical support to ensure compliance with project design requirements.
