Shell
Perdido Fabrication
Gulf of Mexico
CTI has been integrated into the Shell Perdido Fabrication and Installation team to provide engineering support, project and interface management and installation expertise. The Perdido Regional Development host is located in the Alaminos Canyon area of the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 200 miles south of Freeport, Texas. Moored in about 8,000 feet of water, the regional DVA (direct vertical access) spar will be the deepest spar production facility in the world. The Perdido Topsides is a one-piece deck with a loadout weight of approximately 9,200 tons, capable of producing 100,000 BOPD oil and 200 MMSCFD gas with water-flood capacity of 80 MBPD. First production from Perdido is expected in mid 2010.

CTI's responsibilities for this project included the following:

Fabrication of Topsides

The Shell fabrication site team includes CTI personnel in the following positions:
  • Engineering Lead
  • Focal point for contractor originated site queries
  • Focal point for communication between site team and engineering personnel
  • Focal point for interfaces with other Perdido groups, i.e. installation, drilling, subsea, etc.
  • Lead and support other discipline engineers
  • Responsible for tracking lessons learned, revisions, and engineering deliverables
  • Liaison for Shell furnished equipment, storage, and preservation
  • Lead field engineer for electrical, instrumentation, and structural disciplines
  • Systems Completion Lead for mechanical completions
  • Administration lead responsible for cost and schedule control, budget forecasts, invoices, and project milestones

Installation

During the installation phase of the project, CTI personnel; performed the following functions:
  • Supply project management services for the fabrication and installation of the spar moorings, spar hull, and topsides
  • Serve as the primary interface for all mooring and hull installation activities during fabrication and installation phases
  • Secondary role as topsides project engineer during fabrication, installation, and hook-up and commissioning activities
  • Review all installation procedures for the hull and moorings
  • Verify contractor compliance with Shell's standard operating procedures and work permit requirements
  • Provide offshore technical support during the offshore installation and hook-up and commissioning activities
  • Support and monitor mooring fabrication, Health, Environment, and Safety (HES) compliance, and logistics for personnel and vessels used during the installation campaign
