In 2008, Hurricanes Gustav and Ike damaged eight (8) Tennessee Gas Pipeline (TGP) Platforms across the Gulf of Mexico. Handrails, walkway grating, stairways, and swing ropes were in need of repair. TGP replaced the damaged handrails, walkway grating, and stairways. This work was performed on platforms located in Bay Marchand 5, West Cameron 68, West Cameron 192, Ship Shoal 198, East Cameron 49, Sabine Pass 18, Eugene Island 250, and South Pass 55. Replacing the damaged handrails, walkways, and stairs significantly improved the safety related conditions to board and operate these platforms.


CTI assisted the TGP Team by performing the following tasks:

• Preparation of initial internal project forms and reports
• Preparation of project cost estimates
• Preparation and management of third party contracts

Hurricane Ike in 2008 caused a drilling rig to shift from its original position in the Gulf of Mexico. This drilling rig plowed through two (2) parallel TGP pipelines in Ship Shoal Block 165. The 36" and 26" liquid injected gas pipelines, also known as the east leg of the Blue Water Header, were damaged. Due to the jet nozzle effect of the gas from the broken pipelines, the soils in the pipeline repair route became stable.


CTI personnel were brought in to review and assess the damage. As a typical repair practice, spool pieces were fabricated and installed to repair the damaged portion of the 36" pipeline. The pipeline had multiple re-occurring leaks at the original flanged connections in this area due to the unstable soil conditions. Approximately 500 feet of 36" pipe and 500 feet of 26" pipe was fabricated, hydro-tested, and relayed with a single flanged connection.
