Enbridge
Ship Shoal 207 Riser Repair Project
Gulf of Mexico
Hurricane Ike in 2008 caused a 16" gas riser to be pulled from its riser clamps on Enbridge's Ship Shoal Block 207 production facility. New riser clamps were fabricated and installed, but the riser was severely bowed and could not be pulled back into place to attach the clamps.

Although the riser was functional and remained in service, Enbridge decided that it should be replaced to prevent any future failure. The design of the riser, clamps, and subsea tie-in were to follow the original design and the riser guard was not to be removed during installation.

At the request of the Enbridge Pipeline Repair Project Team, CTI performed the following tasks to assist in the riser repair:
  • Verification of riser design including:
  • Wall thickness
  • Riser span fatigue due to VIV
  • Riser span stress due to operational and environmental loading
  • Riser clamp stand-off integrity
  • Drafting of project drawings including:
  • Riser general assembly drawings
  • Riser fabrication drawings
  • Subsea riser-to-pipeline tie-in drawings
